Note: This guide is intended for young plants or clones. If you are looking to start your weed from seed we recommend jiffy peat pellets. If you are starting with a fully rooted one-gallon specimen skip ahead to Flowering Phase >.
The vegetative phase (time between germination and flowering) is an important time in your plant’s life. The plant is growing and photosynthesizing in order to get ready for flowering, .
Transplanting:
Start by transplanting your clone into a 4” pot using Transplant Mix for 2-3 weeks. After this the roots should have filled out the pot.
Next go up to a one-gallon pot using just ‘the Mix’
Tip: When transplanting massage the roots to loosen, and if root pruning be sure to prune the canopy to balance.
Light: Because of all of this photosynthesizing plants in their vegetative phase need a lot of light. Reverend Cannabis provides his young plants with: 18 hour t-5 fluorescent light cycles and simultaneous 24 hours with spiral CFL lights (60 watt equivalent).
Water: Reverend Cannabis carbon-filters his tap water in order to eliminate chlorine. You may also add soluble seaweed extract to promote a vigorous root system and sturdy stems. To really go for it, you can also create a ‘Veg Tea’ (see instructions for ‘Nute Tea’ in flowering cycle)
Tip: You can also let tap water sit out for 24 hours to allow the chlorine to evaporate.
Note: Hand-Watering is difficult. Reverend Cannabis uses drip 2 drip emitters per pot (one on each side. If an irrigation system seems a bit overwhelming, you may want to consider BLUMAT terracotta watering spikes. With a membrane trigger that releases water when the plant needs it these can take a lot of the stress out of watering, and dramatically increase your yield.
After 2-3 weeks, or possibly longer (max 2 ½ months) transplant to a much larger 14-16 gallon pot/tote filled with ‘the Mix’, we are now ready for the flowering phase >.
