Soils around the country differ due to geology, climate, and historical usage. Soils west of the Cascades are typically in short supply of nitrogen and phosphorous, and is frequently acidic. Boron and sulfur deficiencies are not uncommon. Walt’s P-Patch Custom Blend is suited for the prevailing soil conditions of the rainy areas in the Pacific Northwest.
Over the past 27 years, Walt and Co. have reviewed and interpreted countless soil test reports for local Seattle gardeners. This recipe, designed just for the Seattle P-Patch Program, is tailored to correct the most common nutrient deficiencies indicated in the overwhelming majority of these laboratory reports.
Walt’s Custom Seattle P-Patch Fertilizer Blend:
Organic soybean meal makes the base of this recipe to provide the most important of the three plant macronutrients: nitrogen.
Then we add a generous portion of dolomite limestone flour to increase the soil pH of Seattle’s reliably acid soils, thereby assisting nutrient uptake for our commonly cultivated vegetables, fruits, and herbs.
Fish bone meal adds more nitrogen and the second macronutrient, phosphorous.
Kelp meal adds a little more nitrogen and some potassium, but it is most prized for its abundant naturally occurring plant growth hormones, and trace minerals and elements. We believe the fish and help play a vital role in our coastal Northwest soil food web.
Sulfate of potash adds a little sulfur, and the last of the three plant macronutrients, potassium.
Mycorrhizal innoculum of beneficial fungi build a natural microbial system, which greatly enhance plant growth, vigor, and tolerance of environmental extremes.
How to Use our Custom P-Patch Fertilizer Blend in the Seattle Area:
This fertilizer will get your plants off to a great start. Follow-up application(s) are advised for best results. Pairing this product with home-grown green manure is also advised.
Application rate:
2 to 4 pounds per 100 square feet (10×10 space). Use the lower rate for routine fertilizing, or when you know your soil is already very healthy. Go with the higher rate for soil prep (digging it or tilling it into the soil). YI: 1 pound = 2 cups
Directions:
Till or work into the soil from two to six inches. You can also sprinkle this product onto the soil surface if cultivating it into the soil is not an opion. Water well. This product is not water soluble, so if you sprinkle it on the soil surface and water it in, you might want to top-dress it with compost after application.
Guaranteed Analysis:
